Cute “save the date” videos…

Feb 25 2012 Published by under Creative,Design,Relationships

I don’t usually post romantic things, but I’m a sucker for cute and creative.

A friend recently sent over this “save the date” video for two of her friends. It’s very cute and fun. I want to dance with an umbrella now.

It reminded me of another “save the date” video that I saw last year. This one clearly took a ton of effort, but it’s pretty creative and super fun. I don’t know this couple and I can’t remember who sent it to me, but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t know them either, ha. That’s how good it is.

Holstee manifesto: This is your LIFE.

Life has been a bit crazy and stressful for me lately (hence, a lack of updates…even more so than typical). Between work, and side projects, and family, and relationships, and interviews, and ideas, and meetings, and financial issues, and being nomadic, and life decisions, I just have been non-stop moving, sometimes robotically, which is completely not my style.

I’ve been feeling especially disjointed these past few days. Waking up this morning was difficult because I was just drained — mostly emotionally and spiritually but a bit physically too.

Eventually, I got up from the slab of ice I slept on last night (no heat), went to my computer, and got on my grind. After a while of working, I checked my TweetDeck and saw more than one tweet about the Holstee manifesto (see below). Evidently, they launched a new a LifeCycle film of the manifesto.

It totally made my morning better and reminded me of who I am and what I believe (sorry if that sounds cheesy or dramatic or cliche — but there’s no other way to say it). You can read their manifesto below or just watch the video.

Warby Parker: glasses for good

1) I meant to write a blog post back in February or March on Warby Parker and other socially conscious glasses companies. I never did, so I guess this is my compensation in the mean time, until I actually write that post.

2) I know, I’ve been posting too many videos lately.

———-

So the below is a video that Lane Wood of WP put together recently. Love it.

Check it out and see why I wear my Warbies happily pretty much every day.

Meet Simon and Emanuel, of Knowable.org

Last week, I had the great opportunity to meet with Simon Höher (@jimmiehu) and Emanuel Schwarz (@emustweet), founders of Knowable. The two Berlin boys were in town for the Social Good Summit, but thanks to the infamous Christian Vanizette (MakeSense.org), we were able to squeeze in some coffee and chat about development work and their start-up adventure.

The purpose of knowable.org is to connect creative ideas in order to solve everyday problems in developing countries. Currently, the guys are in start-up mode and therefore doing some crowd-funding. Check out their recently released video that better explains their pretty fabulous idea:

I can attest to the fact that knowable.org is not only a great idea, but it’s also run by some really great and super chill guys. I’d recommend checking them out and perhaps donating a few bucks to help get this idea off and running. If you can’t give money but have experience or connections on the ground in developing countries, don’t be afraid to reach out to them also. And if you ever find yourself in Germany, they’re hiring!

Amazing what you can do with a plastic bottle

Isang Litrong Liwanag is a project being done in the Philippines right now that 1) provides solar light to hundreds of dark homes, 2) upcycles plastic bottles, and 3) is overall pretty eco-friendly.

And from the looks of the video, it seems it could possibly support some kind of micro-entrepreneurship in many communities. But maybe I just think that way because I’m me.

Such a simple solution. Amazing.

The Adventure Project: One to 1,000

May 23 2011 Published by under Campaign,Creative,Hunger,Kenya,Organizations,Poverty

Once again, The Adventure Project is running a creative and awesome initiative for their Grow Campaign to bring affordable irrigation pumps to rural small farmers in Kenya.

The Adventure Project acts very similar to charity: water in that it is a marketing and fundraising organization that partners with already existing NGOs doing the ground-level work to address an issue. Currently, TAP is working with Kickstart on its small farmers/irrigation campaign.

In addition, for its One to 1,000 (#oneto1000) project, TAP has also collaborated with relatively new start-up site About.Me, which I like quite a bit. About.Me acts as an online business card, essentially (and they actually will produce free business cards for you!)

TAP was smart — they joined with another start-up of a completely different industry/field in order to promote one another. Kudos. Love innovative and collaborative works, especially for a cause.

  • So if you have an About.Me profile (click here for my profile!), go update it! Or if you don’t, sign up for one and create your page around the One To 1,000 Campaign. TAP provides pictures and resources for your profile.
  • Add it to the One To 1,000 list.
  • Go on Facebook, Twitter, whatever else and promote the campaign!
  • Make sure you hashtag #oneto1000 and cc: @gatesfoundation in your tweets to gather some spotlight for the cause.
